About the hotel
With just the right blend of beauty, style, comfort and service this extraordinary hotel, that opened its doors in 1901, will welcome you just as it has a long list of illustrious guests that includes Lauren Bacall, Humphrey Bogart, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Clark Gable and Ava Gardner. Belmond Hotel Splendido boasts 68 rooms and Suites, all of them splendidly furnished and many with private, panoramic terraces. An additional 17 rooms and Suites, most with a balcony or terrace, are found at the Belmond Hotel Splendido Mare, right in the heart of Portofino facing onto the fabled Piazzetta and the harbor. A complimentary shuttle service connects the two hotels - a three-minute ride.
Guestrooms are delicately furnished and decorated in light Mediterranean pastels for a bright and airy feel. Some of them have views facing the sea and harbor while others enjoy a village view from their windows, balconies or terraces. All bathrooms feature separate toilet, separate shower cubicles, bathtub and double vanity basins. Particularly spacious are the double rooms with balcony, some of which are decorated with magical fresco paintings by local artists of scenes from around Portofino. Several of the Deluxe Junior Suites have two private terraces equipped with sun-beds, table and chairs.
La Terrazza Restaurant offers gourmet dining on an open-air terrace with breathtaking views over Portofino bay and the Tigullian gulf. The cuisine exalts local traditions -- fresh fish, homemade pasta and lots of local aromatic herbs are the stars here. Lunch by the swimming pool features buffet-style appetizers, brick oven pizza and a salad bar. The Piano Bar serves delicious cocktails on the patio or by the pool. And you'll feel like a certified member of the jet-set when you eat at the Chuflay Restaurant at the Splendido Mare, the perfect spot for people-watching and to experience Ligurian cuisine at its best.
There's a heated, saltwater swimming pool and a tennis court on the property where you can sign up for a lesson or two if you wish. Spa and beauty treatments at the Splendido Wellness Centre include yoga and Pilates courses. The hotel's own motor boat, a Chris-Craft Corsair 36, is available for romantic, sunset Champagne cruises while olive oil tasting classes are often held on the hotel terrace during the day.
